True Art
This time of the year my studio work takes over. Having spent my younger years learning the craft in various London studios, I love the control my studio gives me to create the mood that suits my subject.
I am always amused by photographers selling their portraits under ''arty'' names to try to give them a mystique, when they are no more than snapshots taken in the local park.
Robert Sample is a true artist, the type that can turn a few oil paints into a powerful and provocative painting,so when he chose me to take his portrait for his forthcoming London exhibition I was delighted. Here are a small selection of images from the session.

ItalyWhat a perfect combination, an intimate church wedding and the stunning backdrop of Lake Garda in Italy. After a day spent editing and safely committing all the images to disk, my assistant and I went on a tour of the breathtaking countryside of Lake Garda.
The beautiful views together with food as only the Italians can produce, make this one of the top wedding venues that I have visited.

Powdermills Hotel Battle
Having photographed more weddings at Powdermills than any other venue over the past twenty years, you would think that I would get bored, but this could not be further from the truth. The venue is near perfect for photography with dozens of different locations and settings making it a delight to work there. I am very lucky to have it on my door step. This weekend Emma and Paul took full advantage using a lot of the vantage points that I have found over the years, making it a memorable and enjoyable day.

Anna and Davids New Arrival
Ashdown Park Hotel in August 2005 was the last time I photographed Anna and David, that was on their wedding day so to meet them again with the first addition to the family, and catch up on their news was great. Studio portraits where I control the lighting I find gives the best results. The trend today for bland all white flat lighting,or 'environmental portraits' with no controlled lighting, may make it easy for the photographer but just produces dull uninteresting results.

A Nautical Wedding
As Patrick & Kaye both have sea-related occupations, it was inevitable that their wedding would have a nautical theme. I was delighted when they told me the ceremony was to take place in Dungeness lighthouse. This brought with it many photographic challenges, with the obvious lack of space, but this was more than counteracted by the wonderful light which accompanies the striking desolate scenery. After the ceremony we travelled to The Mermaid at Rye, for celebrations of champagne and delicious maritime wedding cake.

For the Love of Horses
I met Gareth and his Ushers at the appropriately named Horseshoe Inn in Hertmonceux. I could tell it was going to be a fun day, as all weddings should be, when the photo shoot started in the childrens play area. After some energetic pre-wedding exercise we all headed off to Herstmonceux Church for the ceremony. Joanne had arranged for the three of us to take a small detour on the way to the reception, as she felt the day would not be complete without some pictures including the other love in her life - her horse.

Another Great Day At Powdermills
Christopher and Margaret's wedding day at Powdermills in Battle started with rain, no problem as the interior of the hotel has many perfect backdrops . Mid morning the sun came out and with the help of David Blight the toast master for the day http://www.thetoastmaster.fslife.co.uk/ the whole event went off smoothly . Another great Powdermills day.
